A TWA Wedding for the Books

Brandon & Ryan at the TWA Hotel — A New York Wedding We’ll Never Forget

There are some weddings that stay with you long after the last petal hits the floor. Brandon and Ryan's was one of them.

When they first came to me at Marigolds Florals, they knew exactly the kind of energy they wanted — bright, dramatic, a little unexpected. They're aviation lovers through and through, so choosing the TWA Hotel in Queens, New York felt less like a venue decision and more like an extension of who they are. That building is a work of art on its own — all sweeping curves, bold red, and mid-century soul — and honestly, it set the bar high for everything we brought into the space.

A Floral Vision Built Around the Venue

My approach from the start was sculptural. As a New York wedding florist, I'm always thinking about how florals interact with architecture — and the TWA Hotel demands that conversation. I didn't want the arrangements to compete with the space, I wanted them to feel like they belonged there. Think tall, leafy, organic wedding arrangements — elephant ears, oncidium orchids, gloriosa lilies, trailing amaranthus — stems with movement and personality. Not a traditional wedding centerpiece in sight, and that was very much the point.

The Ceremony: Sculptural Florals at the Sunken Lounge

For the ceremony, we placed dramatic floral installations flanking Brandon and Ryan at the iconic Sunken Lounge, with the vintage departures board hovering above them. I still get chills thinking about it. The wedding ceremony flowers were intentionally asymmetrical and draped — sculptural without being stiff, lush without being overdone. If you're planning a TWA Hotel wedding and want florals that honor the architecture, this is the approach.

The Tea Ceremony

Their tea ceremony was such a meaningful part of the day. We kept that space intimate, with a hoop floral arrangement that felt celebratory and warm without pulling focus from the moment itself — a beautiful example of how wedding flowers can support cultural traditions without overpowering them.

Reception Florals: From Ceremony to Celebration

By the time we flipped to the reception, the arrangements had traveled with us — repurposed around the king's table and near the DJ, which I always love doing. Nothing goes to waste, and it keeps the visual story cohesive throughout the event. Each guest table had its own airy, asymmetrical centerpiece — same flowers, totally different personality — and the king's table featured nine ikebana-inspired arrangements that I am genuinely so proud of.

Why the TWA Hotel is a Dream Wedding Venue

For couples considering the TWA Hotel for their wedding, I can't recommend it enough. The red and white interiors, the retro-futurist details, the sheer drama of the space — it gives a wedding florist so much to work with. Pair it with a bold, sculptural floral palette and you have something truly unforgettable.

Brandon and Ryan trusted us completely, and that kind of trust is everything. It's what lets you take risks, go tall, go weird, go beautiful. This one was a gift.

Congratulations again, B & R. ✨
